larryhammerIn the Department of Continuing Adventures with Small Animals, Spike the bearded dragon is back with his family. Through this experience, Eaglet has learned that they a) love Spike, b) like bearded dragons but not as much as snakes, and c) hate taking care of live crickets. I am totally on board with c). Dead crickets quickly rot to foetid.
Meanwhile, a female betta named Spicy, who has been resident on Eaglet’s desk for a couple months, came home today to a new aquarium on their dresser. The kids in Eaglet’s class this year earned class money for desk pets (choice of betta or hissing cockroach) by completing classroom chores or selling items at their weekly swap-meet. Eaglet decided, based on how our cats hunt cockroaches, that a betta would be safer here. Listening to how friends have been helping each other get their desk pets faster through loans has been wonderful, even at a remove.
Tomorrow is the last day of second grade.
