There is and I suspect the etymology is from Dutch. There are a lot of Dutch loan words especially in southeastern English. I taught very English kids with names like Van Tromp, Van der Velde and Hjoerdebork and was at school myself with a Bronkhorst.

There are apparent cognates in Dutch and Low German, but no one's managed to trace a good derivation.
