Wow -- online on a Wednesday and having read something. More brief notes than anything comprehensive, though.

Read: The Magic Thief by Sarah Prineas, the first book of an engaging middle-grade fantasy series -- would read book 2 but inexplicably it is not in my library's ebook collection, while book 3 is. Cotillion by Georgette Heyer, a reread I enjoyed, but it does remain in my second tier of Heyer favs, even with the delightful role-reversal of the coded and actual heroes.

Current reading: Foreigner by C.J. Cherryh, which reads like this is the book where she decided to try to unpack her prose to make it more accessible. She succeeded, but the result is some structural wonkiness. Liking it so far.

DNF: The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Steven Baxter (meh), The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler (meh), and Embassytown by China Miéville (came due at library, couldn't renew because of holds, want to check out again)

Agree on the structural wonkiness of Foreigner, but worth persevering because after the first book the series blossoms into a wonderful sci-fi of manners.

Is Cotillon the one with Freddy? I quite enjoyed that.

I loved The Unknown Ajax - probably my favourite so far. And I shall now order Fredericka...
