Thanks, that's led me to a couple new bookmark-worthy sites. And the goldfish look so real that I automatically feel bad for them.

I was just reading about MDR-TB last night, in an article from 1999 about improper TB treatment in Russian prisons.

Supposedly a third of the world's population has latent TB (not yet infectious). People who are diagnosed with latent TB find it difficult to stick to a lengthy treatment regimen when they feel fine and the side-effects can be scary. I assume that adds to the bacteria's opportunities to develop resistance to the first line of drugs.

Our epidemiologist friend, one of whose specialties is TB, also blames the Russians, and the really long (and consequently expensive) treatment needed to fully root it out of someone's body.
