larryhammer: canyon landscape with saguaro and mesquite trees (desert)

In honor of the monsoon rains finally arriving, a haiku:
furou tomo
ano okaeru wa
takaku naku
Or in English:

Even if it rains / that little frog over there / will still croak loudly.

Okay, technically, it ought to be a spadefoot toad, since that's the loudmouth in these here parts, but a) we haven't had a real toadstrangler yet, and besides, sukiashigaeru is b) too damn long and c) something I had to look up afterward. Also, in the translation, "still" is only there to fill out the meter. I can compensate for my flaws only so much.

(All idiomatic faults aside, I'm pleased with this because it's the first thing in Japanese I've managed any attention to the sounds. Not that I can control them anywhere near as well as in English, natch, but still.)
