My favorite of these is actually your post's title quote, which a quick Internet search reveals comes from a group called The Cowboy Junkies, a song with the promising title "Darkling Days." I'll have to see if I can find a place to listen to it.

It's a pretty good song, from a pretty good album. My favorite album of theirs, though, is Lay It Down, which is well worth tracking down.
