A mylar balloon from last month's birthday party is still hanging around. Today it reached neutral buoyancy and has floated from room to room at eye level, on the furnace currents, and startling one as one putters. Right now, it's circling about in the convection of my body heat. Creepy and cool.

So is knowing that tyrannosaurs look pretty in pink but moose most definitely do not. Robert Lang's scorpion, OTOH, is just plain cool:

([livejournal.com profile] jamiam, this is what you saw me working on.) Yes, that's eight legs, two claws with pincers, a jointed tail, and mouth parts -- all from one square sheet of paper, no cuts. Origami designers have been doing some amazing things, these past two decades.

Have a good Year's Long Night, you all. Unless, of course, it's Year's Long Day.

Try the scorpion?

Not that I lack faith in your mad origami skillz....

Creepy because said balloon has a picture of the Grim Reaper on it, and even if the balloon cheerfully declares said reaper is only here for the cake, still, being followed around by same makes one feel just a little bit stalked ...
