larryhammer: floral print origami penguin, facing left (joy)

So for practice, I tried folding Lang's tarantula from regular kami, and got this:

Yeah, I'm made of fail. And I suspect that in translucent spider paper, it'll come out even worse -- even aside from trying to make the narshty repeated closed sinks in thicker paper, the stuff will be even more springy, resulting in a beast like a ghostly bombardier beetle, only more ghastily. In short, No.

However, I have an alternative -- Lang's orb spider:

Those are gorgeous. I would love to see a katydid.

I think that orb spider is sufficiently creepy.

Clearly, instead of a tarantula, you folded a tachikoma.

I want to see more tyrannosaurs! Or maybe a velociraptor?

Hm, I'm kind of tempted to try to modify a spider to make a tachikoma, but I don't know enough about origami yet.

I now have a stack of Lang and Weiss's Origami Zoo in my hands, and a stack of paper. I haven't done origami in years, but the squirrel is looking like a start.

I kind of failed at the squirrel, but I have three cranes, half a lion, and two penguins now! No pictures until I get better at it, though.

I will have to fold sea turtles for friends in Hawaii, I think.

I look forward to seeing it!

Also, I know a (really simple) song about Struthiominus.

Struthiominus! Struthiominus! Fa lalalalalala la!

Actually, I think the orb spider would be fitting for the spider paper.

What book are you using? Your pictures are inspiring! They make me want to take up origami again.

I do like the look of the orb spider, even though I still want to see something that would eat a spider made from the web paper.

Wasps prey on spiders.

Your tarantula looks very much like a Replicator from Stargate.

I think it's excellent!

Look a bit off as spiders, but they make good ticks!

I agree with Coyoty. A wasp would be wicked!
