When I moved here, a weekend subscription of the morning* paper was delivered Fri-Sat-Sun. Since the Friday paper had the weekend arts/shows/happenings section,** that made sense. But then they moved the weekend section to Thursday, to come out the same day as the free weekly paper*** -- and extended the subscription to Thu-Fri-Sat-Sun. This fall they decided, for the duration of football season, to toss in Mondays as well -- so we could get our coverage of Sunday's games.
So there are now two days of the week which are not part of the "weekend."
Feel free to apply your own symbolism to this story.
* We actually do have an afternoon paper.
** Called ¡Caliente! for a touch of southwestern flavor. Except, of course, the hot flavor is picante.
*** Which responded by moving to Wednesday.

In the past they've given us free summers of week-round service, too,
to get their summer circulation up when the snowbirds leaveas a special trial offer, making us even less inclined to actually pay for said service.no subject
