larryhammer: a wisp of smoke, label: "it comes in curlicues, spirals as it twirls" (curlicues)

I seem to have … written a song? That doesn’t have lyrics yet? Or maybe will remain a ukulele instrumental? I dunno. But it has an intro, verses, chorus, bridge, and outro, each with their own chord progressions and distinct but similar strum patterns.

It’s kinda weird, for me anyway. I’m usually more word oriented—spinning out lyrics for existing melodies and the like.

I was vamping on a riff adapted from an exercise in Ukulele Aerobics, when Eaglet came into the room and in a wow tone of voice asks, “Is that from a real song?” and without thinking I said, “Not yet.” That vamp became the chorus. The verse chords are a variation from another exercise, and the bridge started by misplaying the royal road progression and then stepping down back to the tonic.

I can’t play it at speed yet—or not the changes on the bridge from Dsus4 to Em to B7. I’m practicing it hard, though, and found an alternate voicing to make one part easier to finger. So someday.

Anyway, that’s my thing for the week. What’s up with you guys?
