There are certain politicians who, after about ten seconds of their voices, I have to leave the room because I don't want another stroke. And a lot of what they say so carelessly is along this line, making me feel like I've been thrown back to 1963 and in no good way.

The invective against immigrants and religious and ethnic minorities is deeply disturbing and offensive. And, yes, personal. Very personal for you because of your child, but it ought to be personal for all of us. None of us should ever believe ourselves to be separate from anyone else. Nor should we believe we are immune from becoming the targets. We are all together in this, always. The only response we can have is to speak out against hatred and to act toward each other with love and kindness.
