I'm finding it somehow oddly disturbing that I recognize the source of your post title.

(Similarly, though in a different genre, there was a point in my misspent youth when I could recite all of the verse in Anne McCaffrey's Menolly books, not that anyone ever asked me to. I probably still know most of it. At least Menolly wasn't deliberately designed by her author to be writing bad verse.)
