Over in
poetry, I've been hosting a week of Thomas Campion. The songs don't quite manage to tell a story, but there's something of an arc:
Cherry Ripe ("There is a garden in her face")
"Shall I come, sweet Love, to thee"
"Thrice toss these oaken ashes in the air"
"Follow thy fair sun, unhappy shadow"
"When thou must home to shades of underground"
"Come, cheerful day, part of my life to me"
"Rose-cheeked Laura, come"
I do regret that I didn't have time to rustle up links to recordings for these, but there's music enough in the words themselves.
And for you guys, a bonus: To music bent is my retired mind."
