larryhammer: floral print origami penguin, facing left (Yotsuba runs)
[personal profile] larryhammer
I spent this last weekend at the Montgomery County (Texas) Book Festival as a spouse of one of the authors, where I did my usual con thing of folding origami in odd moments, such as while attending panels or waiting for something to happen. Per usual, I gave the results all away, and didn't get any pictures. However, photographs of a few models have been showing up in odd corners of the interwebs.

Unfortunately, it looks like some of them fell under bad influences: the pegasus and the wyvern have been observed jousting with Twizzlers. I am, of course, disappointed with as straight a face as I can manage.* I've no idea how they went so wrong, for the last time I saw them, the pegasus was being politely friendly with a triceratops and a three-headed crane.**

Here's that triceratops on [livejournal.com profile] janni's shoulder, looking adorable. So we know he's not to blame ...

* Not at all.

** Yes, Virginia, someone somewhere out there actually designed a cerberean crane. And published instructions.

I haven't seen red licorice in forever (since my hypocritical dentist uncle's stash came to an end more than twenty years ago). What cinemas and CVS sell in little boxes is usually branded Twizzler, no?

As the delighted recipient of the origami dragon, as well as one of the perpetrators of the Twizzler Joust, please allow me to clarify two points:
1) They were definitely Twizzlers. Promise. As the other authors who drove with me from Austin to Houston this weekend can attest.
2) No creatures, origami or otherwise, were harmed in the making of the film. In fact, the dragon has since retired from jousting and has taken up residence on the bookshelf in my office. He looks forward to living a life of leisure and re-hashing the tales of his jousting days with the Pegasus, who has also retired and is living it up at Jo Whittemore's house.

It was wonderful meeting you this weekend, Larry. And I thoroughly enjoyed being on a panel with the lovely Janni. Should the two of you ever wish to come to Austin and visit the dragon, you are welcome anytime!
