In these parts, the leading edge of spring comes at the end of January: the mourning doves have been cooing, singly for now, for a week now, and the cassias are starting to unfold spicysweet buttercups. A few desert marigolds and African daisies (a common import, those) have been spotted in yards. But this is the first sign for us, right here, that the year is turning the corner.
