... and it chills me to the bone / if you do not believe me / come and gaze upon the shadow at your door

It is sobering and mildly depressing to realize that my enjoyment of Tintin is hampered by the fact that I don't actually like Captain Haddock.

My favorite growing up was The Crab with the Golden Claws (which holds up moderately well, all things considered). What is (or was) yours?

I think my favorite when I was kid was "The Mysterious Island", mostly because it was the first one I'd read. These days it would be Destination Moon/Explorers on the Moon, which I love for despite the atomic spaceship with the Purina paint job and outdated selenology.

When I was growing up, I was more about Asterix than Tintin. (I also liked Iznogoud, but had little time for Lucky Luke.) I still don't have much love for Tintin, to be honest, although I have come to appreciate the art a lot more.

So assuming that we can expand this into a general French comics thread, I'm just going to declare "Asterix the Legionary" the best of that series. --Matt

I liked him best when I read Tintin, but I haven't read any of the books since elementary school with the exception of Tintin in Tibet (1960), which I remember as my favorite and which holds up really well.

Tibet does hold up quite well.

Yay!
