Another fragment of memories from Japan: I can't recall ever meeting ramen while living there, but I do remember, a few years after returning to the States, being served a bowl of Sapporo Ichiban instant and reacting "Oh! This stuff."

Huh: Firefox's spellcheck wants to correct "ramen" to "raven". Feel free to write any poem or story this fact may spark. Or simply graze on the linkies:

I don't think I've ever seen newsreel footage of Helen Keller before, only photographs. The date of the footage of course explains why Anne Sullivan was giving so much background. I imagine many people my age and younger first encountered the facts of Keller's life when they saw either the movie or a stage production of The Miracle Worker, neither of which existed at the time the newsreel was created.

I knew of her largely through The Miracle Worker, yeah. Janni knows more, having done some research for a short story about Keller, but that was as an adult.
