In complete contrast to the rest of the contributions, we have Larry Hammer's epic poem, ‘The Myrmidons’, which takes as its basis the origins of them –- and their name (ants) –- as told by Ovid, but which overlooks one crucial aspect of formic biology. Hammer remedies this in a poem which is by turns serious and comic, and works wonderfully. So says Lesley Hatch, in Vector #238 (the British reviewzine). My feel-good moment for the week.
