Ross 128b is an Earth-sized rocky exoplanet that's apparently in the habitable zone of a stable star only 11 light years away.
Building the mirrors of the world's largest, most precisely engineered telescope. The Mirror Lab really is tucked partly under the football stadium, which I can see from my office parking lot -- it's about 2 miles away. (via)

Ross 128 is more like a 30-something with a good job, a membership in a yoga studio and an extensive collection of James Taylor albums. You could probably trust it not to fry its own planet.And thanks to relative orbits around the center of the galaxy, in 71,000 years Ross 128 will be the star closest to us.
