Happy birthday to the world, and a sweet and happy new year to the rest of us.
Reading has been in catches and snatches this week so I've mostly been reading short stuff: a few Strange Tales from the Liaozhai Studio and about half of Poems of Places volume 25, being the first installment of poetical New England -- I'm rattling around Boston at the moment. I suppose I should be appreciative that Longfellow waited this long to get to the home counties, as it were, but I find the distribution a little biased -- by the 1870s, there had been a lot of west-of-the-seaboard written about.
