Some fanfic I've recently enjoyed, some from this year's Yuletide -- rec lists are still showing up hither and, sometimes, yon:
Hello Operator, Please Give Me Number Nine by Starlingthefool, in which college senior Susie Derkins plays Calvinball with Death, Seven Seals style. In the quad, of course. All night.
Wizards in Winter by vibishan, which is a Calvin & Hobbes/Young Wizards crossover. If Calvin were to send away five Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs box tops for a How To Be A Wizard kit and if he stuck with wizarding long enough to go on errantry, this is exactly how it would happen. It may even be canon. I'm pretty sure it is, actually.
An Analysis of the Implicit Rules of Expletive Infixation (Or, Where the Fuck Do You Put the Fucking Fuck?) by salifiable, in which some minor characters from Hark! A Vagrant cuss their way through a Hardy Boys parody at the heels of an ace teenage investigative reporter. Warning: contains very little actual linguistic analysis.
The Kassandraia by Hokuto - Orestia AU in which Klytaimestra spares Kassandra's life. “You know,” Pylades says, “she may be a little crazy, but your mother’s friend is really hot.” “Shut up,” says Orestes.
How the Mouth Changes Its Shape by breathedout, a Sherlock genderflip set in lesbian scene of 1955 London -- which gives us Johnnie Watson as a working-class butch being extensively frustrated by Miss Bandicoot Cummerbund not being femme (despite the mop of curly hair), the both of them haunted by their wartime experiences. I've never watched the show and I still liked this a lot. The historical footnotes are faboo.
