Meme: Reading Wednesday
27 November 2013 07:30 amWhat I've recently finished since my last post:
Mahôka Kôkô no Rettôsei volume 11, concluding the three-book novel -- as well as tying together some earlier details in an unexpected way, one that provides a necessary power balance. That said, the narrative drive gets a bit muddled in this installment, what with several factions getting a hand in the action. (I did like Tatsuya's reaction to being given a powerful nickname, which is to complain about sounding like the final boss of a crappy video game.)
Kaze no Stigma volumes 3-5. It's not easy to make an anti-hero as obnoxious as Kazuma likeable, but his trolling the other characters is so entertaining. It also doesn't hurt that I respond very well to several tropes of Ren's story in volume 3.
And more pseudonymous internet smut than I care to admit, let alone name.
What I'm reading now:
Divine Eagle, Gallant Hero by Louis Cha -- apparently the kung fu world of our feckless young guile hero is filled with young action girls, all primed to fall for him. *is amused* It would also be interesting to formally compare and contrast his arc with Huang Rong from the previous book. Am almost done with volume 2 (of 4) and still bounding along.
A Traveler's History of Japan by Richard Tames, which hasn't taught me much history I didn't already know but is partially keying its story off tourist-accessible sites. I've had to blot drool off the pages more than once.
And less nineteenth-century poetry than I care to admit, let alone name.
What I might read next:
Just enough prose and verse and comics.
