Donald Trump Bible God Bless the USA was made in China

Donald Trump has long wrapped himself in patriotism, from campaign slogans to speeches invoking “greatness” and “faith.” But his cash cow, the “God Bless the USA” Bible, has revealed a cynical truth about how he monetizes both religion and his political brand.

Trump began promoting his “God Bless the USA” Bible edition in March 2024 as part of his presidential campaign. The Trump Bible is printed inside and out with patriotic trimmings like the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Pledge of Allegiance, and even lyrics from Lee Greenwood’s song. And it sells for $59.99 online. If you think that’s ridiculous, a hand-signed version goes for as high as $1,000.

Eric Trump posts fentanyl death chart and accidentally praises Biden

On Jan. 18, Eric Trump took to X with what he thought was a mic-drop, red-meat post celebrating his father’s violent Caribbean boat strikes. He linked to a chart, tagged Donald Trump, and claimed, “No statistic has ever made me more proud!” But that statistic, about fentanyl deaths, was never about Trump.

“Well done @realDonaldTrump!! Keep blowing the shit out of those boats!” Eric Trump wrote with patriotic vigor in his post. He linked it to a chart circulated by an X account called EndWokeness, claiming that U.S. fentanyl deaths were falling. He meant to imply that Trump’s boat strikes on suspected drug smuggling vessels were the cause of the drop.

For several weeks, Donald Trump has been vocalizing his plans about taking control of Greenland. However, the people of the territory, including its Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, have maintained that they would like to keep their autonomous identity intact and not be ruled by anyone, especially the United States.

If you have been keeping up with the news in the last couple of weeks, you would know that in the early days of January (January 3, to be precise), the United States, under the guidance of Donald Trump, conducted an operation in Venezuela and captured its president, Nicolás Maduro. He is being tried in court on charges of narcoterrorism and is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC) in Brooklyn until his next hearing.

A leaked video currently circulating on social media, including platforms like X (formerly Twitter), offers viewers a glimpse into the extreme narcissism harboured by Donald Trump, if they weren’t already aware of it.

A clip featuring the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, talking to Donald Trump over the phone, possibly in May 2025, and informing him that the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had agreed to a ceasefire deal with Russia for 30 days, is breaking the internet. As previously mentioned, it is primarily due to Trump’s extreme egotistical behaviour that is displayed in it that has got people intrigued.

The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, is clarifying his position on the Greenland/Denmark and the United States debate. While giving a speech during a recent public appearance, Carney revealed that Canada would be extending their support to Denmark if the US decides to invade Greenland, as the two countries are NATO members.

Mark Carney would be doing everything in his capacity to defend Denmark if the United States attempts to seek control of Greenland, and that includes, but is not limited to, the use of military force. In a recent speech, referenced previously, the video of which is currently being widely circulated on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), Carney can be seen revealing that Canada would be supporting Denmark and not the United States, as the latter plans to acquire Greenland by force. This is primarily because they are allies. Carney’s exact words in this context were:

Trump gets Nobel Peace Prize from Maria Corina Machado

Donald Trump finally got his hands on a Nobel Peace Prize. Not his Nobel Peace Prize or the one awarded to him. But one he accepted anyway.

After meeting with Maria Corina Machado, Trump proudly told reporters that she had given him her Nobel Peace Prize. He kept repeating that claim with visible delight, as if the long obsession had finally been satisfied. “She gave me her Nobel Prize,” Trump said, smiling like a 5-year-old. He continued:

woman shares purchase issue (l) walmart storefront (c) woman holding great value vanilla extract (r)

In the past few decades, ingredient lists on basic grocery items have gotten longer. Products that used to feel straightforward now come with additives most people did not expect or ask for.

Unless you turn the bottle around and read every line, it is easy to miss what manufacturers slipped in. And when you do notice it, you may ask yourself some questions. Do we really need to understand scientific terminology to feel comfortable buying pantry staples? Or to trust that something as basic as vanilla extract won’t come with surprises?

LIST THREE (or more) THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF. They don’t have to be your favorite things, just things that you think are good.

  1. I can occasionally write a decent story. Or, actually. Listen. Sometimes I do better than decent. Sometimes! I take an incredible amount of pride in tailoring a narrative. And yeah. I feel good when I get to share a story and get feedback and even people telling me they were delighted to go on a little journey with me.

  2. I think I have a good ear for music. Especially when it comes to playlists and fanmixes. I don't keep up with lots of new music so I'm turning into an oldhead, but music is another form of narrative to me. So yeah. Its another thing I like about myself.
  3.

  4. and lastly, I'm funny as fuck. I won't elaborate further. Just trust me on this.

family home (l) couple arguing over divorce (c) divorce papers (r)

If you think your divorce was messy, Tennessee just dropped the trailer for the most chaotic breakup of the year. What might have been a “you get the house” win quickly took a hard left into pure petty performance art captured by a peeking neighbor.

A scorned husband literally handed his wife the deed… then gleefully flattened the house with a bulldozer while she was at work. Now a nosy neighbor-turned-TikTok-narrator is serving up night-vision footage of the wife wandering through the rubble with a flashlight and a mouth full of curses. The viewers, naturally, are eating up every dusty, dramatic second like it’s premium reality TV. But the best part? An even bigger plot twist in this tumultuous love story.

Episode 32 of CLAMP’s podcast, CLAMP Kanbukai, is out! You can listen to it on YouTube and all major podcast platforms.

This episode’s theme is “Various things happening in early 2026”.

They stated that this is the first episode of 2026 and they were wearing lapel microphone, meaning they were not at the studio where they typically record these. Everyone was drinking beer, except Satsuki-sensei who was drinking some sort of special beer (“adult craft straight over-finished beer”?).

Ohkawa-sensei then said that although they were recording this at the very first week of 2026, a lot of things were already happening by then (which is the episode’s theme). She talked about the perception of time going by faster as one gets older (Janet’s Law). She asked the other three members if they agreed with this theory and basically they all agreed. Mokona-sensei mentioned that she feels like time went by slower during her 30s and Ohkawa-sensei added that the reason for that is probably because they had a bigger workload during their 20s, 30s and 40s (as in, manuscripts to draw). According to the theory, keeping oneself busy and creating new challenges helps the perception of time passing slower. Ohkawa-sensei then says that, indeed, she was very busy during the time she was working for the CLAMP Exhibition and that made her feel like time went by a bit slower.

Next, they spent some good 10 minutes talking about a recent trip they did to Fukuoka where they watched a couple of stage plays, starting with “12 Kingdoms” at the Hakataza Theater (the actor who played Yuuko on the XXXHOLiC stage play is also part of the cast of this one). On the next day, they watched “The Phantom of the Opera” for the first time in over 30 years. They spent some good 6 minutes talking about the experience.

After returning to Kyoto, they ended up eating at their beloved Fuugetsu (Okonomiyaki restaurant) near Yodobashi Camera. They said they are curious about trying the other restaurants nearby but they are always drawn to Fuugetsu (specially Ohkawa-sensei).

They finished the episode talking about a funny episode on New Year’s between Ohkawa-sensei and Satsuki-sensei, who have the exact same laundry machine. Apparently the machine displayed a New Year’s greeting via text and that amused them — or something along those lines!

I've managed to keep going [so far] with Goodreads, where I have exactly one friend [hi, Nathaniel!] so if you're on Goodreads, please make contact there so we can look at each other's book stuff. Don't bother with looking at my last year in books, because I started off and then didn't do anything.  I will do better! I've mistakenly put in an end date for the one book I'm still reading, but I haven't finished that one yet. I know it looks like a lot, but the zombie e-books are really quick to read, especially when you speed-read over the bits where the author is carrying on about military stuff.

It's been so hot today that I haven't done much more than read and mess around on Goodreads. We had 38^C here in the "cooler" coastal bit and it's going to continue doing that for a bit.

Today's grump: philosophy

.. I'm not being grumpy at all philosophy today, although I have days when I encounter bits and I have Thoughts and Opinions that can be summed up as 'philsophy sucks'. I have not, historically, engaged very well with particular bits of philosophical thinking and/or the way it is presented.

Today, I'm struggling, because I am being too literal. And because the starting point is swan == white, and then the author is extrapolating out from that. I, however, fall over at the first hurdle, because I have to stop and parse swan==white, and spend time getting out of my comfort zone, rather than starting in my comfort zone. And I get that this is Western Australia is a niche case (and, presumably, anywhere our swans have gone and set up communities) issue.

And not only do I struggle when I encounter this damn thinking. But I get annoyed. Black swans have been known about *in Europe*---the source of most of the philosophy I try reading---for at least 150 years (the Swan River Colony was established in 1829, there were French and Dutch explorers in the vicinity before). These explanations don't start with 'let us assume that there are only white swans' or anything acknowledging this. Or at least, the ones I remember encountering don't.

I hate not being able to grasp the foundational thought on which the next n pieces are built. It makes it so hard to read. I suspect I'm going to skip this chapter and see whether the next one (different authors) is better.

Spent the weekend at the 51st CWRU Sci-Fi Movie Marathon.

Like last year, I used the OpenVibe app to auto-crosspost my liveblogging to both Mastodon and Bluesky. The app has threading now! So these are in slightly-longer chunks of text than last year, because I could split a longer reaction across multiple threads and post them all at once.

…But the overall text is shorter, in part because I swear the breaks between movies were seriously cut down this year. There was a lot of “I had a longer thought here, but the next thing is already starting, so I have to finish typing as fast as possible (with my coat draped over my phone so the light isn’t bothering everyone else) and hit send.”

In my head canon (and the fic series I'm working on), Sonny and Rico will be dressed similar to this at their ceremony, with Rico in a white tux w/black accents and Sonny in a black tux w/white accents. Also, the quote is from the show, after yet another bad romance, Sonny tells Rico he wishes he could get his head and heart together, just once...

Talk about your favorite tropes in media or transformative works. (Feel free to substitute in theme/motif/cliche if "trope" doesn't resonate with you.)

I've been thinking about it and I have to say that my #1 trope is AU - Canon Divergent. But I don't think of it that way because I don't really consider it to be a trope (for that matter, I don't consider it to be an AU). It's taking canon and altering it somehow, which I think the majority of fanfic does, as long as it's not set exactly in canon with no changes. Or am I not grasping the meaning quite right?

I did a Tiermaker chart and everything for last year's Snowflake, so I'm just going to link to that post here: Favorite Tropes 2025. My tastes haven't changed.

quiddity

20 January 2026 12:00 am
[syndicated profile] merriamwebster_feed

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for January 20, 2026 is:

quiddity • \KWID-uh-tee\  • noun

Quiddity refers to the essence of a thing—that is, whatever makes something the type of thing that it is. Quiddity can also refer to a small and usually trivial complaint or criticism, or to a quirk or eccentricity in someone's behavior.

// The novelist’s genius was her unparalleled ability to capture the quiddity of the Maine seacoast in simple prose.

// He portrayed the character's quirks and quiddities with tender playfulness.

See the entry >

Examples:

“When I was gathering my odes into a book—or rather, piling up my effusions in prose and verse and trying to work out which ones were odes and which weren’t—my friend Carlo gave me a magical concept. He called it ‘the odeness.’ It’s the essential quality, quiddity, … uniqueness of whatever you’re trying to write about. It’s what your ode is attempting to first identify and then celebrate. It’s the odeness of your ode.” — James Parker, The Atlantic, 30 Sept. 2025

Did you know?

When it comes to synonyms of quiddity, the Q’s have it. Consider quintessence, a synonym of the “essence of a thing” meaning of quiddity, and quibble, a synonym of the “trifling point” use. And let’s not forget about quirk: like quiddity, quirk can refer to a person’s eccentricities. Of course, quiddity also comes from a “Q” word, the Latin pronoun quis, which is one of two Latin words for “who” (the other is qui). Quid, the neuter form of quis, led to the Medieval Latin quidditas, which means “essence,” a term that was essential to the development of the English word quiddity.

So I'm off today and I decided I didn't want to spend it in this apartment even though I should be here working on the 10001 things I need to be doing. Is it frigid out? You betcha. Am I going? You betcha. Especially when the power failed again just for a few seconds but lately it's been doing that off and on all day.

Chillicothe OH was doing the restaurant thing that they do in NYC, which I think I mentioned so I pick three places to hit. I went to Paper City Coffee. If they had a special for this event it wasn't listed. It's a nice enough space. The two ladies ahead of me were raving about the maple bourbon latte. I decided why not? The chairs were not great in this place but it's clean and bright and I found parking on the side street for free (on Paint St which is a main artery it's pay to park). It doesn't taste like maple or bourbon. It's not bad but it wasn't what I was hoping for. It's not as good as Rost was but that's gone and the Connect Cafe that took its place fucked up a peppermint mocha so I guess Paper City can be my coffee place when I'm up there

I went to Hometown Hibachi where I did have to pay to park (it's a buck an hour so it's not too horrible and I always have quarters) It's 2 pm. this place is small, about a dozen tables. There was ONE open and three of them had families with babies howling. They also didn't offer the promised event special which fine. I wanted the chicken katsu ramen any how. Got instant fomo when I saw the hibachi meals (next time) The ramen was spicier than anticipated but good. The katsu was a weird choice on my part it wasn't cut small (and that reminded me of when I was with ELD and got something similar at her ramen joint) so it was awkward if tasty. I'd go again.

TJ Maxx had a bunch of stuff I needed, boring things like shower mat (mine's ripping) and shower curtain liner (I was trying to clean my ancient one and I'm like why? It's less than my cup of coffee) I tried their Aldi because it looked bigger than mine down here. It wasn't. Got more cheese.

Came outside and the wind had picked up. If I had a tarp, I could have sailed home, no engine on. It was wild out there. Speaking of that I had to put the rags in my door to keep the draft out. That's when Rocket decides I MUST GO OUT. Five mi nutes later.... Also I tried to see the aurora again. No dice.

"One, we're not a team. We are a bunch of misfits who are temporarily on the same road trip. Two, if this isn't your government, then you had better get pretty afraid of Malaysia. Bob here isn't just doing the usual punchy punchy thing."

1. Pretty chill day at work today. I got stuff done. The office situation is a bit annoying now because as of last Thursday we have a handful of new people moved in, but there weren't enough empty desks so they brought desks from their previous office and crammed them in where we had previously had a meeting table and it feels very crowded now. I'm sure I'll get used to it, though.

2. I love the dramatic lighting on Gemma. It suits her dramatic personality lol.
