I like to fold things. I also like having page-a-day calendars in my office. Sometimes these likes intersect delightfully. Last year, for example, I had a paper-airplane-a-day calendar, where yesterday's page makes today's plane. Excellent office air force for taking over to status meetings.

This year, I tried this origami-a-day, which is better than the last one I tried. I forget which series that was, but not only were the pages just enough off square to be annoying, the models were really aimed at beginners.1 This one is too, but so far in five months, it's given four truly excellent models and about a dozen good ones. Which come up just often enough to keep me checking each day.

I wouldn't hesitate giving this to a child who likes origami.

1. I'm an intermediate-advanced folder -- or at least, I worked my way through Origami Insects. I am Robert J. Lang's bitch.

I love the origami insects but they're way beyond my skills at the moment. I need to practice!

The scorpion is amazingly looking.

Not that I've done it myself. But it was cool to watch a sheet of paper turn into so complicated an insect.

I can imagine- I've only got as far as a crane- and that wasn't very good!
