I'd heard that for years, but thought it was a folk etymology, not a real one!

I had always assumed it referred to Humphrey Bogart, but I never wondered how that happened.

Whereas I knew 'don't bogart that joint' from the song (can't remember where I first heard that, so maybe Easy Rider), and didn't know it had escaped into the wild ... A sign of age, I suspect.
