Reason loved it around Eaglet's age (I think starting the year prior, in that she wanted rereads because she didn't quite get it at first), and yes, that's the type of "picture book" aimed at first- and second-graders who don't read confidently yet. It ambushes them with actual content, heh.
I do not miss Captain Underpants at all.
